Tourism Vital To Britain
Tourism "vital" to Britain by Cheap Flights Booker UK
VisitBritain has underlined the importance of the tourism sector in Britain, saying that it is "vital" to the economy.
In a foreword to the tourism agency"s annual review for 2008-09, chairman Christopher Rodrigues states that the industry can drive economic growth more quickly than other sectors.
He also claims that tourism should be a central part of the government"s efforts to bring the UK out of recession.
According to VisitBritain forecasts, the number of trips to Britain could fall by as much as 5% by the end of the year as a result of the difficult economic conditions.
Mr Rodrigues said: "In spite of these difficult times, I have no doubt that, by working closely with the government, the industry and our strategic partners in London, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, we will emerge from this turbulent period in good shape."
The tourism agency"s points of focus moving forward will include inspiring foreign travellers to visit Britain and maximising the benefits of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in London.
