Travel Industry Cautiously Optimistic For Next Year
Travel industry "cautiously optimistic" for next year by Cheap Flights Booker UK
There is "cautious optimism" for the future in the travel sector, an industry spokeswoman has revealed.
Frances Tuke of Abta - The Travel Association said that bookings are "looking good" for next summer, but the difficult economic conditions mean that it is "not all positive".
She was commenting after the release of figures by the Office for National Statistics which showed that the number of visits to the UK rose by 2% during the May to July period this year, while trips abroad by UK residents fell by 1%.
Ms Tuke said that these statistics are in line with other reports and not particularly surprising.
On the positive side, the Abta spokeswoman said: "There are some very good areas of growth, places outside the EU like Turkey and Egypt, and this summer other places like Cyprus and Tunisia have been doing well and growing quite nicely.
"Overall … [the market] is down by 10% but compared to other sectors, that is not too bad."
Tesco Travel Money recently recommended eastern European destinations such as Poland, Hungary and Bulgaria for people who still want to go abroad but can not afford to spend too much.
