Theme Parks Strong Drivers Of Tourism
Theme parks "strong drivers of tourism".
28 Sep 2009
Theme and amusement parks are "strong drivers" of tourism in Europe and an important part of the industry, an expert on the sector has claimed.
Andreas Veilstrup Andersen, executive director of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) in Europe, revealed that parks across the continent generate total annual revenue of up to €4.3bn (£3.96bn).
Mr Andersen also commented on the fact that attractions are still being built during the global economic downturn, saying that they are, to some extent, "recession-proof".
"If you look at the 2009 season for theme and amusement parks in Europe, it has not been as bad as many feared," he said.
"The big destination parks have not had the best season, however many regional and local parks have had very good seasons."
Mr Andersen made his comments following reports that Spanish football club Real Madrid plan to build their own theme park near Spain"s capital city.
Travellers can visit amusement parks in several destinations across Europe, such as PortAventura near Barcelona, Disneyland Resort Paris and Phantasialand in Bruhl, Germany.
