Bumper Cruise Season Expected In Australia
"Bumper cruise season" expected in Australia by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The cruise market in Australia will experience a record summer season over the coming months, it has been predicted.
Carnival Australia, the country"s largest cruise operator, revealed that it is expecting to carry 190,000 passengers in the region over the next six months, which would represent an increase of 13% on last year.
The 2009-10 summer season in Australia will also feature a record 217 visits to ports around the country.
Queen Mary 2, the Cunard Line"s flagship, will make maiden calls to Fremantle and Adelaide, while the new P&O Cruises superliner Pacific Jewel will make its debut in Australia.
Jenny Lourey, senior vice-president of Carnival Australia, said: "We think it will be a very exciting six months, not only for passengers at sea but also for spectators on land, as there"ll be a continual parade of ships through our ports."
The company"s operations - which will include calls at new ports such as Phillip Island and Newcastle - are expected to provide an economic boost of $160m (£88.3m) in Australia over the summer season.
