A number of large-scale conventions and holidays, including Japan"s annual Silver Week, as well as fresh marketing initiatives have helped to drive the trend.

However, Marsha Wienert from the state"s Tourist Authority also reported that visitors are continuing to tighten their belts, with overall spending still down on 2008 levels.
