Holidays Made Cheaper By Identity Cards
Holidays made cheaper by identity cards by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Holidays in Europe for Brits could be made cheaper by replacing passports with identity cards, a travel body has claimed.
According to ABTA - The Travel Association, Brits taking flights within the European Union do not strictly need to have a passport - the system is in place as there is not another "officially recognised proof of identity" available.
Other parts of Europe are using a card system instead of passports, the organisation explained.
Sean Tipton, spokesperson for ABTA - The Travel Association, said: "So in the long-term, if identity cards prove successful and they are rolled out for everybody, then it would be a cheap way to go abroad and avoid having a passport for travel in the EU.
"If you look at it, when we go abroad the majority of our holidays are within the EU. That"s a potential to save money in the future."
The price of a ten-year adult passport was increased to £77.50 earlier in the year by the Identity and Passport Service and Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
