Istanbuls Cultural Status Set To Be A Major Draw For Tourists
Istanbul"s cultural status set to be a major draw for tourists by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Istanbul is likely to enjoy a massive growth in popularity among European travellers as it becomes the continent"s Capital of Culture next year.
That is according to the Turkish Culture and Tourism Office, which has reported that it has seen an 11% year-on-year increase in British tourists over the first nine months of 2009.
However, this could just be the tip of the iceberg, with interest in Istanbul expected to soar over the coming months as its status as the 2010 European Capital of Culture puts it on the radar of those travellers who may otherwise have opted for Rome or Athens.
Commenting on his country"s increasing popularity, Irfan Onal, director of Turkish Culture and Tourism Office, said: "As Istanbul gears up for its title of Istanbul Capital of Culture, growth in visitor numbers will continue."
"Turkey is also a great winter sun destination for golf in the Belek region near Antalya - and conference and incentive travel is also driving that growth," he added.
Meanwhile, the Office also recently cited a report from PricewaterhouseCoopers which predicted that Turkey"s tourism sector will grow by 12.1% between 2010 and 2013.
