Auckland Aquarium Gets New Additions
Auckland aquarium gets new additions by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Kelly Tarlton"s Underwater World in Auckland, New Zealand, has seen a flurry of maternal activity in the past few weeks, with penguin chucks, ray pups and baby sharks all being added to the population of the aquarium.
Some of the creatures arrived in unusual circumstances, with the baby school sharks emerging from a wound in their mother"s side after she was bitten by a broadnose sevengill shark.
The team at Kelly Tarlton"s, who were not even aware that the shark was pregnant, had to perform an emergency caesarean section to get the babies out alive.
One staff member, Fiona Davies, said she had never witnessed anything like this before, adding: "It had to bite a certain part to let them out and do it without killing the babies or the mother."
Two eagle ray pups were also born at the aquarium recently and ten to 15 gentoo penguin chicks are expected to hatch before the end of the year.
From 13 November to 13 December, there will be a "Meet the babies" exhibition open at Kelly Tarlton"s where visitors can get a close look at the new arrivals.
