She added: "The results are indicative of our commitment to the local tourism industry and our most recent marketing efforts to promote Darwin have performed exceptionally well through increased preference and intention to visit the NT.

"Results from the Darwin campaign are impressive, as are the early indicators from our current Global Red Centre campaign across key international markets."

It was also announced recently that the landscapes of Kakadu and Uluru in the Northern Territory had been voted Australia"s top two destinations by National Geographic Traveller magazine in the US.
