BAA announces Â7m investment in Southampton by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Airport operator BAA has announced plans to invest £7 million in Southampton over the next year.

Several developments will result from the funding, including a footbridge that will improve access for rail passengers, particularly parents, those carrying luggage and people with reduced mobility.

Some of the investment will aim to improve the efficiency of the base, with old air conditioning units being replaced to reduce energy consumption and new roof glazing planned to let more natural light into the terminal.

The 2m passengers who use the airport will also benefit from additional restaurant, cafe and coffee shop facilities, the first of which are due to open before the end of the year.

Kevin Brown, managing director of Southampton airport, said: "The investment of over £7m in the next year is fantastic news in the current economic climate.

"All of the developments aim to enhance the easy, fast and friendly nature of the airport and have incorporated customer feedback to ensure our passengers have the best possible airport experience."

Travellers can catch flights to Paris, Amsterdam, Edinburgh and other destinations from Southampton with carriers such as Air France, Flybe and Eastern Airways.
