Flight Emissions Affecting Airport Green Plans
Flight emissions "affecting airport green plans" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Emissions generated by the aviation sector are "dwarfing" initiatives taken by airports to reduce their own carbon footprints.
That is according to Cait Weston, policy and communications officer for the Aviation Environment Federation, who said that aviation needs to take a "fresh look" at its emissions targets.
She explained that there are no currently "radical technologies" to make air transport greener, unlike road travel which can be decarbonised.
"While airlines are keen to talk about the technical feasibility of using biofuels in aircraft, no one seems able to explain how they could be produced on a wide enough scale to meet the needs of a growing, fuel-hungry sector," Ms Weston added.
The comments come in response to a report from the Institution of Civil Engineers, which called for a more long-term view for the "greening" of the aviation sector.
According to the organisation, too much time and discussion is being spent looking at short-term plans and individual projects to cut emissions.
