New Air Berlin flights welcomed in San Francisco by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Air Berlin will launch flights to San Francisco from Dusseldorf next year, news that has been welcomed by the US city"s international airport.

The new service will get underway in May 2010 and will link the west coast of America to several other destinations in Europe, such as Munich, Vienna and Zurich.

It is the first direct link between San Francisco airport (SFO) and Dusseldorf.

John Martin, director of the hub, said: "SFO is California"s most convenient gateway to Europe, with dozens of flights daily to all major European airports.

"Air Berlin"s added service allows us to offer even more options to Germany and beyond."

San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom said it was "great news" that services to Europe were being expanded during these difficult economic times.

Air Berlin is Germany"s second largest airline after Lufthansa, with an extensive international network that includes flights to New York, Cape Town, Bangkok and London.
