Lonely Planet has announced the release of its new guide to Australia.

Fifteen authors spent a total of 65 weeks on the road to create a book that "gets to the heart of Australia"s diverse culture and extreme geography", according to Lonely Planet.

Readers will also be able to learn about the distinctive characters of the country"s big cities, such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
