New Law Offers More Compensation For Delayed Passengers
New law offers more compensation for delayed passengers by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Air passengers who encounter serious delays while travelling in Europe will receive more compensation as a result of a recent EU ruling.
Judges at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg passed a new law that will see consumers receive compensation of up to €600 (£541) if they are delayed by three hours or more.
The reimbursement is the same amount that passengers would get if their flight was cancelled.
Airlines will be required to show that the delay was caused by "extraordinary circumstances" to avoid paying the compensation and will also have to meet strict new criteria if they intend to call off services.
The landmark ruling has been welcomed by consumer groups.
Rochelle Turner of Which? Holiday said: "We hear all too often of people who are delayed for hours at the airport, often without any information about when their flight will finally leave, and are then offered no compensation.
"This judgement means that consumers will now be compensated properly for long and often frustrating delays, and not just when the airline takes the decision to cancel a flight."
