Qatar Airways preparing for Melbourne flights by Cheap Flights Booker UK

People planning to visit Australia will soon have a new travel option when Qatar Airways launches flights to Melbourne from Doha.

The airline has extended its recruitment programme in the country, with 20 full-time employees now based in Melbourne, and plans to expand its workforce by at least 25% over the coming weeks.

Due to launch on 6 December, the Doha to Melbourne service will initially operate three times a week before a daily frequency is introduced from 1 January 2010.

Marwan Koleilat, the airline"s vice president of commercial operations, said: "Australia is a key market for the continued growth of Qatar Airways and we are excited with the response we have already received from both the trade as well as the public.

"Since our recent briefings to the travel trade on our Melbourne flights, we have had double-digit growth in forward bookings, with June to August 2010 looking particularly robust."

Following the Melbourne launch, Qatar Airways will introduce new flights to Sydney from Doha early next year.

Mr Koleilat said the services will establish the carrier"s presence in Australia.
