Iceland Visitors Making Most Of Currency Situation
Iceland visitors "making most of currency situation" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The recent drop in value of the Icelandic krona against the British pound has led to an increasing number of travellers hitting the shops during their holidays, according to a tourism industry spokesperson.
Sigga Groa, UK and Ireland marketing manager of the Icelandic Tourist Board, said that the country"s tourism industry has been performing well recently despite the economic problems.
British travellers have been showing an increasing interest in Iceland and taking advantage of the fact that it has become "much more affordable" in recent times, according to Ms Groa.
"Although the pound [sterling] is weak, the Icelandic krona is a lot weaker," she said.
"After the credit crunch shopping has increased quite considerably, much more than the incoming tourists so they are coming and spending much more in Icelandic krona."
Ms Groa advised visitors to see some of the country"s natural sights during their trip, such as the Gullfoss waterfalls and the Blue Lagoon, as well as the capital city of Reykjavik.
