Route 66 Continues To Be Popular
Route 66 "continues to be popular" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Travelling on Route 66 in the USA is still a "firm favourite" for visitors to the country, it has been claimed.
Stella Clery-Ackland, a representative for the US Travel Association and DiscoverAmerica.com, explained that the "iconic highway" is popular with all types of travellers.
British holidaymakers in particular continue to be attracted by America, with the country remaining a choice long-haul destination for UK residents.
Ms Clery-Ackland added that different holidaymakers prefer different aspects of Route 66, which opened in 1926 and remained in operation until the mid-1980s.
The 2,400-mile highway ran from Chicago to Los Angeles and was the primary route used by immigrants heading west to California.
However, it was removed from the US Highway System in 1985 and is now only drivable in portions.
"Some visitors will take in Illinois, Missouri and Oklahoma, which will give them a taste of the history and pop culture of this famous road," she noted.
"Transport is also extremely varied including renting a Harley or an open-topped Cadillac or an RV."
