Turkey A Hot Destination In 2010
Turkey "a hot destination in 2010" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Turkey will be a "top travel destination" among Brits travelling abroad this year, according to International Currency Exchange (Ice).
The firm described Turkey as "a gateway to the east" and said that it represents a "melting pot of cultures".
A strong factor in the country"s favour this year is the fact that Istanbul is the European Capital of Culture for 2010 and will therefore play host to a varied line-up of events.
Koko Sarkari, global head of Ice, said: "The Turkish lira was the sixth most ordered currency in both May and June 2009 and in the summer of 2008 Turkey knocked Spain off the top spot for UK holidays.
"We are already seeing sales of lira up in January 2010, compared to the same time last year, suggesting that Turkey is a hot favourite with UK travellers."
Offering some tips for people planning to visit Istanbul this year, Mr Sarkari recommended having some low denomination lira for bartering in the city"s bazaars or buying drinks during a Bosphorus river cruise.
