Abta Calls For Apd Reform In First Manifesto

Abta calls for APD reform in first manifesto by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Abta has released its first ever manifesto, which outlines the British travel industry association"s position on key issues facing the sector, including air passenger duty (APD).

The group said that the tax should be reformed to provide an incentive to airlines to fill their planes as much as possible and to operate efficient aircraft.

APD should not work on a per-passenger basis and would be more effective if it was aligned with the overall distance being travelled, according to Abta.

Other demands set out in the manifesto include a reform of consumer protection to allow people to book flights, holidays and accommodation in confidence and an increase in airport capacity across the UK, particularly in south-east England.

Abta chief executive Mark Tanzer said: "Abta is serious about taking the concerns of travel agents and tour operators right to the heart of government and this manifesto puts the issues we"re fighting on in black and white.

"None of the political parties should be in any doubt where the travel and tourism sector now stands on our key issues."
