Eurozone countries "still top for Brits" by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Eurozone destinations such as Spain, France and Portugal are still the most popular option for British holidaymakers heading overseas, new research suggests.

First Rate Exchange Services commissioned a survey which found that nearly three-quarters (71%) of the people planning to travel abroad this year will visit a eurozone country.

More than half (58%) of the adult population of the UK - which equates to 28.4m people - are intending to take an overseas break in 2010.

While the pound is still in a relatively weak position against the euro, First Rate predicted that many people will be "in for a pleasant surprise" when they see how far their budgets stretch.

Managing director Gordon Gourlay said: "Lower tourist prices across the eurozone are extremely good news for the millions of UK holidaymakers who are set to make a return to traditional holiday destinations such as Spain and Portugal this year.

"UK foreign currency retailers can expect strong demand for the currency as savvy travellers stock up on euros in order to get best value from foreign exchange deals in the UK."

Three-quarters (75%) of the survey respondents said they will be buying some foreign currency in the UK before they travel.
