"The city is Asia in a nutshell, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences. The result is an exciting melting pot of numerous religions and varied cuisines, with a flourishing arts scene."

Mr Hassan encouraged visitors to see some of the city"s architecture, which he described as "second to none, with 19th century museums rubbing shoulders with space-age skyscrapers".

The Tourism Malaysia spokesman also highlighted the affordability of travelling to the destination, describing Malaysia Airlines" flights to Kuala Lumpur as "excellent value for money".

Attractions in the city include the Islamic Arts Museum, the Lake Gardens and Central Market.
