More Cabin Crew Agree To Work During Ba Strikes

More cabin crew agree to work during BA strikes by Cheap Flights Booker UK

British Airways (BA) has announced that it will be able to carry more passengers than it first thought during the forthcoming cabin crew strike as a result of employees offering to work during the walkout.

Members of the Unite union have voted to take industrial action on 20, 21 and 22 March, with a four-day stoppage also scheduled later in the month.

BA announced its contingency plan on Monday (16 March) and set a target to fly 60% of customers as scheduled, a proportion that looks set to increase as more workers come forward to offer their services.

It was also revealed that the number of rival airlines offering charters and additional seats to help passengers during the strike period has increased from 50 on Monday to more than 60 today.

Willie Walsh, chief executive of BA, said: "I am delighted by the numbers of cabin crew who have been getting in touch with us to express their disillusion with Unite"s position. Our crews just want to work as normal, do their usual terrific job and look after our customers.

"We will now have the potential to fly more than 4,000 additional customers per day and serve more destinations."

The strike plans have attracted criticism from prime minister Gordon Brown and transport secretary Lord Adonis over the past week.
