Most Brits "planning to take main holiday abroad this year" by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Almost 60% of British people are planning to head abroad for their main holiday this year, according to new research.

Lloyds TSB questioned more than 2,000 UK residents about their travel plans for 2010 and found that the majority are planning to buck the "staycation" trend that emerged last year.

A third of respondents said their determination to go abroad has been strengthened by the recent cold weather in the UK.

Europe was found to be the most popular holiday region, with 60% of people planning to visit a country within the continent, followed by America (12%), Africa (5%) and Asia (4%).

Nearly half (45%) of people said their top priority this year is to hit the beach and enjoy some sun, while 23% said they are planning a city break and 5% are intending to take a cruise.

A third of respondents have already booked their main holiday for 2010 and a further 24% said they are planning to make their arrangements in the next few weeks.
