Qantas recently handed out awards to tourism operators in Australia that have shown a sustainable approach to their business.
The Crystal Creek Meadows cottage and spa retreat in Kangaroo Valley, New South Wales and the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway in Cairns, Queensland were announced as joint winners of the Qantas Award for Excellence in Sustainable Tourism.
Both companies were recognised as part of the airline"s Australian Tourism Awards event, which was held in Hobart, Tasmania on 26 February.
Rob Gurney, the carrier"s commercial executive, said: "Qantas launched this award two years ago as part of an industry-wide approach to sustainable tourism.
"The award was introduced to encourage Australian tourism operators to minimise their impact on the environment and showcase Australia to domestic and international tourists as one of the world"s leading sustainable tourism destinations."
Qantas" Australian Tourism Awards programme also saw Melbourne Aquarium named the country"s leading major tourism attraction, while the 2009 Tour Down Under in South Australia was voted the best major festival or event of the past year.
