Qatar Airways Fleet Doubles In Five Years

Qatar Airways fleet doubles in five years by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Qatar Airways has confirmed that it is now operating 80 aircraft, meaning its fleet has doubled in size over the past five years.

The airline recently took delivery of its 15th Boeing 777 ER aircraft, which will be used on long-haul flights from Doha, the carrier"s hub in Qatar.

With a delivery schedule of more than one new plane every month, Qatar Airways is reportedly one of the fastest-growing airlines in the world.

It expects its fleet to continue growing to reach 120 aircraft by 2013, while the carrier"s flight network is also expected to expand to 120 routes over the next three years.

Speaking at a trade show in Hyderabad, India, Akbar Al Baker, the airline"s chief executive officer, said: "Just five years ago, Qatar Airways operated 40 aircraft. Today our fleet has doubled in size to 80 aircraft.

"As our fleet increases, we are able to raise capacity on existing services and introduce new routes, which is continuing as planned despite the industry facing challenges amid the current global economic climate."

The carrier recently embarked on its global expansion programme for 2010 with the launch of flights to Bangalore in southern India.
