Sri Lanka Starting To Look Like Its Old Self
Sri Lanka "starting to look like its old self" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority has revealed that the country "is starting to look like its old self" following the tsunami in 2004 and the recent end of a civil conflict.
Figures released by the organisation show that tourism arrivals in February this year were 48% higher than in the same month in 2009, representing a new record.
People coming from the UK played a significant part in this growth, with a 68% year-on-year increase in the number of British visitors last month.
Sri Lanka"s national tourist board pointed out that the country offers a range of accommodation for travellers, from "new luxury beachfront resorts to authentic wellness retreats buried deep in the jungle".
Adventurous visitors can also head to the recently reopened Wilpattu nature reserve - which is home to animals including leopards, Ceylon sloth bears and crocodiles - as well as the Yala and Uda Walawe parks in the south-east.
The easiest way to reach the island is to catch a flight to Colombo. British Airways, Qatar Airways and Emirates are among the carriers that serve the destination from the UK and Europe.
