Strike Set To Disrupt Rail Services
Strike set to disrupt rail services by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Britain"s two largest rail unions have called a strike next month, a move that is expected to cause chaos for train services and could lead to a rise in demand for domestic flights.
The RMT and TSSA unions confirmed that their members have voted to take industrial action for four days from 6 to 9 April.
Stoppages will take place from 06:00 to 10:00 and 18:00 to 22:00 on each day.
The action, which is related to a dispute with Network Rail over job cuts and working conditions, is expected to affect thousands of commuters and holidaymakers returning after the Easter weekend.
RMT general secretary Bob Crow said: "RMT negotiators have worked flat out to try and reach an agreement that protects rail safety, job security and working agreements in the disputes involving signalling and maintenance staff on Britain"s railways.
"Despite long hours of talks we have received nothing concrete from Network Rail that addresses the key issues."
The strikes could lead travellers to book flights with UK airlines such as Flybe, which has already announced that it will offer additional capacity during the affected periods.
