Food And Wine Fans Urged To Try Alsace
Food and wine fans urged to try Alsace by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Travellers planning a food and wine tour of France have been encouraged to visit the Alsace region in the east of the country.
According to the Alsace Tourist Board, the area is home to more Michelin-starred restaurants than any other part of the country outside Paris.
The famous Auberge de I"ll in Illhaeusern has boasted three Michelin stars since 1967 and serves signature dishes including chicken and duck liver pate in a goat"s cheese crust.
In addition to its gourmet restaurants, Alsace is home to bistros known as "winstubs", which are known for popular dishes such as choucroute, baeckeoffe and tarte flambee.
Those more interested in sampling the region"s wines can travel along the Route des Vins, which covers a distance of 170 kilometres from Marlenheim to Thann and passes through the Alsace plain and the foothills of the Vosges mountain range.
As well as stopping off at some of the many wineries to taste and buy local products, visitors can explore quaint villages and see medieval castles.
Air France offers flights to Strasbourg in Alsace from London City airport, while British Airways flies to Basle from London Heathrow.
