Thailand An Easter Holiday Hit For Brits
Thailand "an Easter holiday hit for Brits" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
British travellers showed high demand for trips to Thailand during the Easter period, according to new figures relating to currency sales.
Of the top currencies exchanged by Sainsbury"s Travel Money, the Thai baht was among the most popular with a 107% increase in orders in the seven days before Easter compared to a typical week at that time of year.
Trips to Dubai, Abu Dhabi and other locations in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) also attracted interest from Britons, with Sainsbury"s reporting a 122% rise in the volume of UAE dirhams being exchanged.
Canada"s dollar currency and the euro also saw strong increases of 86% and 84% respectively.
Scott Gorman, head of Sainsbury"s Travel Money, said: "The week before Easter is usually a busy week for people getting their foreign currency, but the difference in demand for more exotic currencies is marked.
"Clearly there were some great last-minute deals to be had in the UAE, judging by the increase in demand for dirham."
The company revealed that the overall volume of foreign currency exchanged in the week leading up to Easter this year was 71% higher than during a typical seven-day period.
