AUC: Airlines should be more prepared to reimburse passengers by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Airlines should make it easier for passengers to reclaim money lost on flights that were cancelled during the recent volcanic ash crisis, according to the Air Transport Users Council (AUC).
The organisation recently visited a number of carriers" websites to look for instructions on how passengers can go about claiming for their expenses and getting a refund if they were unable to travel.
On many sites, the information was "tucked away" in a section that was difficult to find or simply not there at all, the AUC revealed.
The airline industry watchdog released a statement after its research saying: "We are pleased that most airlines have now committed to reimbursing the out-of-pocket expenses of passengers whilst they were waiting to get home.
"But passengers need to know how to go about getting their money back. We therefore call on airlines, as a matter of urgency, to provide a link to information on how to claim their money back from the home pages of their websites."
Ian Bradley, a spokesman for the Association of Independent Tour Operators, said this week that the recent airspace closure caused by a volcanic eruption in Iceland would not stop people from wanting to travel overseas this year.
