BA signs merger deal with Iberia by Cheap Flights Booker UK
British Airways and Iberia have signed an agreement this morning, coming one step closer to their merger.
The two carriers are to unite to form a single airline by the end of this year, resulting in one of the world"s largest aviation companies.
Passengers, shareholders and employees of both organisations will all benefit from the deal, the airlines said in a statement.
Willie Walsh, chief executive of BA, said: "The merged company will provide customers with a larger combined network.
"It will also have greater potential for further growth by optimising the dual hubs of London and Madrid and providing continued investment in new products and services."
More than 400 aircraft will be operated by the two airlines once they merge, flying to 200 destinations around the world.
The proposals are to be put forward for shareholder approval in November and it is expected that the merger will be completed the following month.
