Cayman Islands Leading Green Movement In Caribbean

Cayman Islands "leading green movement in Caribbean" by Cheap Flights Booker UK

The tourist board representing the Cayman Islands has claimed that the destination is leading the environmental movement in the Caribbean after two of its dive resorts received certification from the Green Globe organisation.

Compass Point, which is located in Grand Cayman near some of the island"s famous wrecks, was certified for its sustainability, along with Cobalt Coast in West Bay.

The resorts join the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park horticultural attraction in gaining approval from Green Globe, which is one of the leading certification schemes for travel and tourism.

According to the Cayman Islands" tourism department, the destination"s marine conservation policies have created a "largely pristine" reef system for divers to explore.

Don McDougall, the department"s regional manager in Europe, said: "Green Globe certification represents a considerable investment of time and money by all the properties and attractions that participate."

He added: "Being able to display the Green Globe on their websites and demonstrate a high level of environmental awareness counts for a great deal among not only the UK diving community, but those international visitors who are attracted to Cayman for its strong natural attributes."
