Lincolnshire"s World Egg Throwing Championship was named the quirkiest event in England at a recent awards ceremony.
Enjoy England introduced the "Where Else but England" accolade for the 2010 outing of its Awards for Excellence programme.
More than 40,000 people voted on the Sun newspaper and Enjoy England websites for their favourite quirky events and unusual experiences on offer throughout the country.
This year"s World Egg Throwing Championships will take place on 27 June at Swaton Vintage Day near Sleaford.
The contest was voted England"s quirkiest event ahead of the Worthing Bird Man Festival, the World Nettle Eating Contest in Dorset and the Worcestershire Asparagus Festival.
Amanda Smyth of VisitEngland said: "There are some startlingly creative and exciting experiences to be found around the country. We hope this award will remind people of those traditions, both old and new, that are unique to England and inspire them to go out and explore what"s on their doorstep."
