International Tourism Gaining Momentum
International tourism "gaining momentum" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has released a report showing that global travel is "steadily gaining momentum", with international arrivals rising by 7% in the first two months of 2010 compared to the same period last year.
This follows year-on-year growth of 2% recorded in the final quarter of 2009, which came after 14 consecutive months of negative results.
Of the 77 destinations that provided data for the first two months of 2010, 24 reported double-digit increases in visitor numbers, including Estonia, Hong Kong, Japan, Sri Lanka and Kenya.
The UNWTO predicted overall growth of 3% to 4% this year and said that its forecast had not been altered by recent disruption to air travel in Europe.
Taleb Rifai, the organisation"s secretary-general, said: "Although economic results have improved significantly in recent months with a positive impact on tourism demand, we must remain cautious as many factors can still jeopardise the pace of recovery.
"The economic recovery is being driven mainly by emerging economies, while growth is still sluggish in most advanced ones."
France, the US and Spain continue to lead the international tourism industry in terms of arrivals and receipts, the UNWTO revealed.
