Lonely Planet launches awards programme by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Lonely Planet has announced that it is launching its first ever awards programme.

Members of the public can cast their votes by visiting the company"s website before 31 May and choosing from a shortlist of potential award winners in various categories.

The lists have been drawn up by a panel of experts including Lonely Planet travel editor Tom Hall and co-founder Tony Wheeler.

Mr Hall said: "The awards cover all the elements which make a trip truly unique, from food and culture to journeys and activities and even who you travel with."

Peter Grunert, editor of the Lonely Planet magazine, said the initiative aims to "get under the skin of what inspires people to travel", from cultural experiences to wildlife encounters.

People who take part in the voting process can claim a 30% discount from the company"s shop and be in with a chance of winning an adventure holiday in Cambodia and Thailand.

The winners will be revealed online and in the Lonely Planet magazine from 19 August.
