Macchu Picchu Re Opens To Tourists
Macchu Picchu re-opens to tourists by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Tourists have started returning to Machu Picchu in Peru, two months after the popular tourist sites was shut due to flooding.
Tens of thousands of visitors to the South American country were left disappointed after heavy rainfall prompted flooding in the mountains surrounding the ancient Inca site, closing the main rail link there.
However, officials in Peru have now confirmed that parts of the popular Inca trail are now open, with tourists now able to travel to Machu Picchu using a combination of bus and train transportation.
In a special re-opening, which was attended by the Hollywood actress Susan Sarandon, hundreds of visitors were able to explore the ruins of the 15th century sacred site, which is located around 2,500 metres above sea level.
Manchu Picchu was named as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983 and, up until the recent floods, was welcoming around one million tourists a year.
