Holidaymakers planning a visit to the state of California during a trip to the US this year will be able to try out some of the region"s newest attractions.

Several new rides and shows are set to open at parks across California this year, including King Kong 360 3D at Universal Studios.

Created by director Peter Jackson, the new attraction will take visitors on a 3D journey through a dense jungle populated by all sorts of creatures, including 35-foot-tall dinosaurs and King Kong himself.

In June this year, the world"s first Lego-themed water park will open at Legoland California, covering an area of 5.5 acres and featuring everything from waterslides to an area where guests can build their own raft.

Other new attractions set to open over the coming months include the World of Color display at Disney"s California Adventure Park and the Blue Horizons show at SeaWorld San Diego.

Caroline Beteta, president of the California Travel and Tourism Commission, said: "For many travellers, visiting California"s theme parks and attractions is a dream come true. And with parks always offering something new, we know they"ll come back."
