Tirol Tourist Board launches yodelling contest by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The Tirol Tourist Board has announced that it is embracing one of the national stereotypes associated with Austria by launching a yodelling competition.
In a search for Britain"s "yodel idol", the organisation is inviting members of the public to submit their attempt to emulate the singing style online.
Entrants will be in with a chance of winning a trip to an Alpine mountain hut with five friends in August.
Explaining the new initiative, Eckard Speckbacher of the Tirol Tourist Board said: "We decided to celebrate yodelling and use it as a fun way to picture the beauty of our region."
The competition was launched following research by the tourism agency which found that more than a third (34%) of British people allow stereotypes associated with particular places to influence their choice of holiday destination.
While many people may picture "cow bells, lederhosen and edelweiss" when they think of Austria, the Tirol Tourist Board pointed out that there is much more on offer in the country, including white-water rafting, climbing, alpine walking and mountain biking.
