Uk Airports Reopened Following Aviation Lockdown
UK airports reopened following aviation lockdown by Cheap Flights Booker UK
UK airports were reopened last night (20 April), bringing to an end the five-day shutdown caused by the eruption of a volcano in Iceland.
A British Airways flight from Vancouver was the first service to touch down at London Heathrow shortly before 22:00 BST.
Airlines were given the green light to resume operations by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), which said it had consulted with some of the world"s leading engineers and experts to tackle this "immense challenge".
The CAA released a statement saying: "The major barrier to resuming flight has been understanding tolerance levels of aircraft to ash. Manufacturers have now agreed increased tolerance levels in low ash density areas."
Virgin Atlantic has confirmed that it plans to operate normal schedules from London Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester today, while easyJet intends to resume a number of services across Europe.
However, passengers affected by the suspensions have been warned to expect delays at airports as carriers attempt to clear the backlog.
