Volcanic ash crisis not affecting holiday plans, survey finds by Cheap Flights Booker UK

The recent closure of UK airspace following the eruption of a volcano in Iceland will not lead to widespread holiday cancellations, according to a new survey.

Research company TNS RI Travel and Tourism carried out a poll which found that only one in ten people are considering postponing a planned break as a result of the event.

Some 46% of respondents disagreed with the suggestion that the widespread flight cancellations made them less likely to arrange air travel for a summer holiday this year.

The study found that almost 3m British adults were affected by the airport shutdown, but despite this, nearly two-thirds (63%) of people surveyed agreed that the authorities were right to keep the restrictions in place for as long as they did.

Nearly one in ten (8%) people were prevented from flying as a result of the ash cloud that resulted from the eruption, TNS RI Travel and Tourism found.

Tom Costley, head of the company, said: "This data highlights the significant impact that the ash crisis had on travellers in Britain.

"There is continued uncertainty over the extent of the impact on taking flights and overseas trips for the rest of 2010, although it is interesting to see that the majority of travellers will not let the situation influence their future plans."
