Ba Reverts To Contingency Plan After Strike Injunction Overturned
BA reverts to contingency plan after strike injunction overturned by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The threat of a strike is once again looming over British Airways (BA) after the court of appeal overturned an injunction against planned industrial action by members of the trade union Unite.
Earlier this week, the high court blocked the scheduled stoppages on the grounds that the strike ballot had not been fully carried out, but this judgement was overruled today (20 May).
BA subsequently announced that it would be reverting to its original contingency plan and hoped to fly more than 70% of passengers during the first walkout, which could take place next week.
Full schedules will remain in place at London City and Gatwick, while 50% of short-haul services and 60% of long-haul flights will be available from Heathrow.
There is still a possibility that BA and Unite could come to an agreement to prevent the strikes, with Tony Woodley, the union"s joint general secretary, saying that immediate talks are needed to address outstanding issues.
"BA must now accept that negotiation not litigation is the only way to secure the settlement we all want," he said.
"This is a pause for peace. [BA chief executive] Willie Walsh must make the most of it."
