Ba To Keep The Flag Flying During Strikes
BA to "keep the flag flying" during strikes by Cheap Flights Booker UK
British Airways (BA) has had the slogan "keep the flag flying" painted along its aircraft fuselages to show that it will continue to operate during the 15 days of planned industrial action by the Unite trade union.
The message is being placed on ten of the airline"s Boeing 777 aircraft at London Heathrow and two of the same model planes at Gatwick.
Despite the strikes - the first of which began yesterday (24 May) - BA intends to maintain large parts of its network.
The airline flew to 85% of its long-haul destinations yesterday and maintained its entire short-haul network.
BA has been locked in an increasingly bitter dispute with Unite in recent months regarding the pay, working conditions and benefits on offer to its cabin crew staff.
The trade union released a statement today urging Willie Walsh, the airline"s chief executive officer, to enter negotiations to prevent further industrial action over the coming weeks.
