Caa Introduces Measures To Reduce Flight Disruptions
CAA introduces measures to reduce flight disruptions by Cheap Flights Booker UK
New measures are to be introduced by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) at midday today (18 May) to reduce the disruption caused by volcanic ash that has drifted into UK airspace from Iceland.
The authority announced that it had created a new airspace zone to allow airlines to fly in higher ash densities than were previously permitted.
Developed after discussions with carriers and regulators, the measures will lead to fewer cancellations and airport closures.
In order to fly in the new zone, airlines must present a case to the CAA and show that their aircraft and engine manufacturers have agreed that they can operate safely.
Flybe was the first carrier to meet this requirement, meaning it will be able to fly in the new zone from midday today.
CAA chief executive Andrew Haines said: "I"m pleased that the huge efforts we"re all making across aviation to keep flying safe whilst minimising the disruption from the volcano have resulted in further progress.
"Unprecedented situations require new measures and the challenge faced should not be underestimated."
National Air Traffic Services revealed that, as a result of the change, there are "no predicted restrictions on UK airspace in the immediate future".
