Continental United Merger To Benefit Travellers

Continental-United merger "to benefit travellers" by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Travellers have been promised that they will see the benefit of a merger between two of America"s largest carriers - Continental Airlines and United Airlines.

The companies announced that they had reached a deal to create the world"s largest carrier, with an international network serving 370 destinations.

While the new airline will continue to operate under the United brand, its aircraft will feature Continental livery and its new advertising slogan will be "let"s fly together".

Glenn Tilton, chairman and chief executive of the United Airlines group, said: "Today is a great day for our customers, our employees, our shareholders and our communities as we bring together our two companies in a merger of equals to create a world-class and truly global airline."

Continental chairman Jeff Smisek said the combined company will have the financial strength to offer product and service improvements for passengers.

Both carriers are part of the Star Alliance group, which also includes Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, bmi and other carriers.

United and Continental currently operate flights to New York, San Francisco, Chicago and other leading destinations throughout the US.
