Easyjet Expects New Govt To Reform Flight Tax
EasyJet expects new govt to reform flight tax by Cheap Flights Booker UK
EasyJet has welcomed the new government"s agreement to reform air passenger duty (APD) - the tax on flights in and out of the UK.
The Conservatives and Liberal Democrats have formed Britain"s first coalition government since 1945, after last week"s general election failed to result in an overall majority for any party.
Referring to the parties" manifestos, easyJet pointed out that both included a pledge to reform APD, with the Tories planning to encourage use of fuller, cleaner planes and the Lib Dems intending to create a "per-plane" tax.
Chief executive Andy Harrison said that, as "the UK"s largest airline", easyJet looks forward to working with the new secretary of state for transport.
He added: "The two government parties have made a firm coalition agreement to reform the daft air passenger duty, which taxes full planes but not empty ones.
"It"s now time to act and make air passenger duty a fairer and greener tax without increasing the tax burden on the flying public."
EasyJet expects to carry around 50m passengers this year, compared to British Airways" forecast of 30m.
