Ms Munro also stressed the importance of lower living costs in established holiday destinations.

"Countries such as Portugal or Spain can prove to be tremendous value as the improving exchange rate combined with low living costs mark them out as top value destinations."

While Britons will continue to show interest in the eurozone this year, Ms Munro also revealed that the Post Office has seen strong demand for the currencies of Turkey, Indonesia, Kenya and other more distant destinations.
