Qatar Airways "forging ahead" with global expansion by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Qatar Airways has revealed that it is "forging ahead" with its planned global expansion this year despite the financial challenges facing the aviation industry.
The carrier said it had a "long-term commitment to growth" and plans to continue its investment in new aircraft, routes and airport infrastructure.
Four new services - to Bangalore, Copenhagen, Ankara and Tokyo - have already been launched by the airline from Doha this year, with new flights to Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires and Barcelona set to begin next month.
Speaking at the opening day of the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai, Qatar Airways chief executive Akbar Al Baker said the company was founded in 1997 with the aim of developing "an international airline with the highest standards".
"I am delighted to say that we are well on track with our strategy, opening up routes in all corners of the world, introducing brand new aircraft into the fleet at a phenomenal rate and investing in our existing airport in Doha," he added.
"Since February, we have opened up some great new routes in India, Turkey, Denmark and Japan. And June will be a busy month for us as we prepare to launch flights to a second Spanish destination and enter South America for the first time with flights to Brazil and Argentina."
A new international airport is currently under construction in the airline"s home city of Doha and is set to open next year.
