Travellers Not Being Distracted By World Cup
Travellers "not being distracted by World Cup" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The World Cup is not being seen as an influencing factor for many people planning to head overseas this year, according to research.
Travel add-ons company Holiday Extras asked its customers about their interest in the football tournament and found that 43% of women would be paying the event no heed at all.
Perhaps more surprisingly, more than a quarter (26%) of male respondents also said they had no interest in the World Cup.
Almost half (47%) of travellers said they will only watch the big games if they have time, with just 16% saying that watching all of the matches is a priority.
Holiday Extras also asked its customers to name the country they would most like to visit out of all the competing nations, with 41% saying Australia, 16% opting for Italy and 14% choosing South Africa.
Mike Whiting, the company"s managing editor, said: "Whilst many of us will be in the grip of football fever this summer, a significant proportion of UK travellers can"t wait to escape."
The 2010 Fifa World Cup will run from 11 June to 11 July and will feature matches in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and other cities in South Africa.
