Virgin Atlantic launches flights to Accra, Ghana by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Travellers heading to west Africa this year will be able to make use of new flights to Accra, the capital of Ghana, which were launched by Virgin Atlantic this week.
The airline will operate three weekly services to the city from London Heathrow using an Airbus A340-300 with 240 seats.
Sir Richard Branson, president of Virgin Atlantic, said he was "delighted" to have initiated the route to Accra, which is the carrier"s fifth destination in Africa after Cape Town, Johannesburg, Nairobi and Lagos.
He added: "Our new services will bring much-needed competition onto the route, increasing seat availability by 35% and breaking the near monopoly British Airways has enjoyed for many years.
"Over the course of the year we expect to fly over 60,000 passengers, all of whom will benefit from more choice, competitive fares and value for money."
Nick Taylor, the airline"s regional manager in west Africa, pointed out that tourism in the region is "growing significantly" and will be supported by Virgin Atlantic"s new service.
