Travellers visiting Edinburgh this summer will be able to gain some unique and memorable experiences when the city hosts the Rat Race.

The event is described by its organisers as "an urban adventure challenge" that allows people of all abilities to "hike, bike, abseil, climb, kayak and navigate their way around the streets, structures, waterways and urban landscapes of the country"s coolest cities".

Edinburgh will host the Rat Race on 17 and 18 July.

Visitors will have the choice to take on the Mean Streets challenge on the Saturday, which lasts three hours and encompasses a range of fun activities in the city centre, or the Nine2Five event on the Sunday, which will include cycling, kayaking and other pursuits.

Those who feel that they are up to the task can sign up for the Weekender, which will combine both days" events.

As well as providing plenty of excitement and exercise, the Edinburgh Rat Race will allow participants to see some of the city"s most famous sights, such as Arthur"s Seat, Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile.
